Part 1: Funeral

Earlier this year, my great uncle passed away at the astounding age of 115 (!). He was a strong and compassionate man, holding onto unwavering values and possessing a heart and mind that were always open. A true reformer within a Western military, he worked towards promoting humanitarian unity. As he was laid to rest with military honours and traditional songs from our region, I was reminded of troubadour melodies from the French Middle Ages. Thoughts flooded back to my school days, when these songs in Spanish and French were a part of my education, along with a teacher who shared his knowledge of the lute. I recall studying "El Canto del Mio Cid" for an exam and still hold vivid memories of the passages. While the interpretative aspect didn't captivate me, the vivid descriptions of the landscape and the main character stirred a longing within me – for the land that is intertwined with my family's history, the aromas, the cuisine, the enchanting beauty... and for my beloved uncle, who filled the void left by  my grandfather.
